I have not seen the beast itself, but I have, on several occasions, been forced to step over animal droppings at the bottom of the steps to our fair building. Living in such close proximity to the dog waste disposal station - 10 yards away - I can draw only two possible explanations as to why I would find animal droppings at the bottom of the steps to our fair building:

One or more of my neighbors is a jerkface that is too lazy to bag and transport his or her animal’s droppings ten yards to the waste station; or

There is a Chupacabra in the area, defecating wherever he pleases.

Since none of my neighbors are jerkfaces, the only logical explanation is that we have a wild Chupacabra running around the apartment complex.

So, please, residents of Alamo Ranch Apartments Building 16, be careful when you take your dog out at night. If the Chupacabra doesn’t get you, you might accidentally step in his droppings.

Comedy Sportz San Antonio

Comedy Sportz San Antonio:
I was in my first improv show in waaaaaaaaay too long.
Since then, I’ve been doing some research, and I keep coming back to the idea that it is the Facebook app causing my Droid to suck. I tried a lot of different ideas to fix the problem. I did a few system resets, and after one of them, I decided not to update the Facebook app.

Bingo! That was it. Somewhere between the version of the Facebook app that comes with my Droid - and that I cannot delete without rooting - and the current version, it became a huge, steaming pile of Droid-ruining crap. By not updating, I was able to use my phone again. It’s amazing.

So, Facebook, fix your app.
Verizon, don’t bundle your phone with crappy, non-removable apps.

So hot today, even the lizards are basking in the shade.

So hot today, even the lizards are basking in the shade.

I’m sorry, sir, but you and your Compaq will need to wait...

I’m sorry, sir, but you and your Compaq will need to wait outside.

The Law of LeBeouf

The Shia LaBeouf Law: If you enjoyed a toy, television show or a movie toward the end of the 20th century, a horrible movie version will be made in the 21st Century, and Shia LaBeouf will be required to appear in it.

Even more fortunately, these friends are actually performing, and frequently. This has left me with an abundance of Facebook invites to a wide variety of plays, art gallery openings, improv showcases and concerts, most of which I am geographically incapable of attending. This gets compounded when several friends are collaborating on a single project, and I get an invite or two from each participant.

I’m torn. I really enjoy keeping up with the artistic careers of my friends, but I really hate dealing with invites to events I could never attend. I don’t think any of my friends are intentionally trying to invite me to events they know I can’t attend. Rather, I think in their excitement for the event, they literally invite ‘everyone they know.’ It’s certainly the easiest way to get the word out. But it’s probably not the best thing for your ‘friendships.’ I think I have a solution: Facebook Friend Lists.

Friend lists have been around forever in Facebook, but I don’t think many people take advantage of them. I think they’re great. They definitely can help solve the problem of inviting too many people to your events.

Setting up lists are easy: go to the friends page and click “Edit Friends.” At the top you’ll find a button to create a friends list. Click that and give your list a name. I named mine “People who realistically might attend my events.” That name turns out to be too long, and gets truncated. Might I suggest “Realistic Invites” instead? Start typing names into the box, and your friends will be added. I recommend setting up several groups, Family, Friends, College, High School, etc. They come in handy for limiting access to your profile, too.

Then, when you create an event, you can just choose that list of people who realistically might attend your event. Problem solved.

Of course, I still want to keep tabs on my friends’ artistic endeavors. Making the event public should allow the event to appear in your feed, and I’ll see it that way. Everyone wins.

My Droid is Crappy

So my first generation Motorola Droid has been getting progressively worse lately. It’s almost to the point where it is not a functional phone.

The old joke is that the iPhone is a great phone, you just can’t use it as a phone. My Droid makes me wish i had an iPhone.

Leaving an application, it takes 10-45 seconds for the home screen to load. Applications fail on me, constantly. Twitter, Facebook, Gmail all will crash. The only remedy I’ve found is rebooting every few hours. I’ve removed almost all applications, I’ve done a factory reset. I just don’t know what the problem is.

Is it an over the air update gone wrong? Can I fix this with a local update? Or is this just crappy hardware? Either way, it sucks. I want to believe in the Android platform. I like iOS just fine, but I prefer my Google apps integration, the open app market (thanks, Apple, but I’m a big boy, I can look after myself in the App Market). I like the Android notification system. And I really like Verizon’s network.

I still have another year on my contract. Now that Verizon has the iPhone, I’m torn. Do I go with the iPhone (probably 5th gen, at that point) when my contract is up, and start from scratch rebuilding my habits? Finding and setting up new apps, trying to get Gmail and Google Calendar to work on an iPhone. Or do I go with the best offering from the Android platform.

I’m thinking, whatever I choose, Motorola won’t be in the picture.

I don’t know if you’re a fan of Punk Rock, Gypsy...

I don’t know if you’re a fan of Punk Rock, Gypsy Music or NPR, but If you like all three have I got the perfect video for you.

Yeah.
